In cooperation with Robert Bosch GmbH and Furtwangen University (HFU), NOMOS Glashütte presents the first smartwatch "Made in Germany" with an innovative energy concept as a hybrid of a mechanical watch with intelligent digital functions.
Innovative energy concept
The question "classical mechanical watch or modern smart watch?" Can be answered with "YES" since today. The NOMOS TangoSmart unites the best of the two worlds and shows innovations that prove the performance of the location Germany. The watch is driven by the mechanical NOMOS caliber DUW 3001E. The "E" means that the mechanical elevator also supplies the energy for the electronic functions of the watch. "Our rotor lift in the caliber DUW 3001 is so efficient that it takes two hours a day to fully tension the elevator spring. In the purely mechanical version of the plant, the rotor then stops. The hybrid version of the DUW 3001E lets the rotor continue to run and uses the other 10 hours that are normally worn the day,

"This gives us enough energy to supply the NOMOS neomatik Smart Module, which is built into the clock instead of the classic dial. For the TangoSmart we do not need a socket, no power supply, no charging cable. Simply wearing the watch is enough to provide them with energy. And in an emergency they can still be pulled over the crown, in case you have moved too little. "
Display technology "Made in Germany" and sensor technology from Bosch
The watch still has mechanically driven hour and minute hands, only the seconds hand is digitally generated on the display. Thus, even in the very unlikely event that the battery should be empty, it performs its own function of a time indicator. The dial, however, is a display specially developed by the Bavarian Forest-based company Interelectronix . This is freely programmable and with a special glass surface also enables ForceTouch to control the intelligent functions. The special challenge was to separate the actual display area from the glass surface, since the mechanical hands of the clock rotate their circles. Interelectronix uses as the top layer of the patented ULTRA glass film glass, a 0.1 mm thick micro-glass from the military and industrial application. This is completely insensitive to mechanical scratching.

In the simplest case, a classic NOMOS dial is displayed on the display. "NOMOS fans will be particularly delighted about this feature. So far, NOMOS does not offer a date adjustment. And so you have to crank up in the short months to keep the date up to date. The TangoSmart displays the date in classic form on the intelligent dial. The date is read out from the GPS signal, and the carrier always has an actual date in the display, even over time zones, depending on where it is. "So the TangoSmart has an eternal calendar," says NOMOS chief constructor Mirko Heyne.
Additional apps can also be used to display a second time, eg as a digital display.
